Description: Synthesis of nursing concepts. Provides nursing care for high-risk newborn, pediatric, perinatal, and adult clients with multi-system alterations in health. Emphasis on leadership and management roles of the nurse. Includes a preceptorship experience to facilitate role transition from student to graduate nurse. Integrates concepts of nutrition, communication, health promotion, and advanced pathophysiology.

1. Demonstrate critical thinking in application of nursing process for clients with complex alterations in health. (I)
2. Organize client/family teaching and discharge planning to address identified needs in health education/promotion, illness prevention, and restorative health practices. (I)
3. Construct a holistic plan of care for acutely ill pediatric and adult clients with multi-system alterations in health. (I, IV)
4. Synthesize ongoing focused client assessments and evaluation. (I, VI, VII)
5. Participate in creating a therapeutic environment. (II)
6. Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills with pediatric, high-risk perinatal, and acutely ill adult clients. (II, VI)
7. Demonstrate caring behaviors with pediatric, high-risk perinatal, and acutely ill clients. (II, VI)
8. Practice within regulatory, legal, and ethical frameworks of professional nursing within high acuity settings. (III, V)
9. Formulate safe and competent nursing interventions for pediatric, high risk perinatal, and acutely ill clients. (I, II, VI, VII)
10. Demonstrate leadership, delegation skills, and professional behaviors during interactions with the health care team. (V)
11. Complete a supervised preceptorship that provides experiences to transition into the graduate nurse role. (V)
12. Demonstrate safe performance of selected clinical skills/procedures. (VII)
