Draping for Fashion Design

Description: Manipulation of fabrics on a dress form and/or live figure to create designs and patterns. Use of woven fabrics to create basic and intermediate designs. Introduction of knitwear draping. Drape and construct an original design.

2. Select and use equipment correctly in the draping process. (I)
3. Tear, block and press muslin to perfect grainline and use correct grainline in designs. (II)
4. Drape, mark, and true bodices, skirts/pant, and shifts in muslin. (III)
5. Drape, mark, and true darts, necklines, armholes, waistlines and hemlines. (III)
6. Work with fit, ease, flare, gathers, pleats, and bias drapes. (III)
7. Transfer drapes and markings to make paper patterns. (IV)
8. Construct test garments from paper patterns to fit dress forms. (V)
9. Apply rules for knit draping to effectively produce a design. (VI)
10. Sketch designs, explore fabric possibilities; then select sketch and fabric for an original design. (VII)
11. Calculate accurate fabric yardages for selected original design. (VIII)
12. Drape, mark, and true an original design directly in fashion fabric. (VIII)
13. Evaluate draped, original design using basic design and construction principles. (VIII)
