Description: Advanced draping techniques for fashion design. Includes draping jackets/coats, shorts/pants, dresses/gowns and other woven fabrics. Also includes draping swimwear/leotards and other garments in knit fabrics. Drape and construct an original design.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Drape, mark and true patterns for a variety of garments in muslin and other woven fabrics, including jackets/coats, shorts/pants, and dresses/gowns. (I)
2. Work with lapels, collars, shoulder pads, yokes, sleeves, inseams, cowl necklines, and bias cuts. (I)
3. Measure, block, mark, and align a variety of garments in knit fabrics, including tops and bottoms, dresses/gowns, and swimwear/leotards. (II)
4. Work with one-way and two-way stretch knits including T-shirt knits, sweatshirt, rib-knit, velour, and swimwear/dancewear knits. (II)
5. Transfer drape and markings to make paper patterns. (III)
6. Construct test garments from paper patterns to fit dress forms. (IV)
7. Evaluate test garments on dress forms according to grainlines, fit, ease, stretch, and accuracy of designs. (IV)
8. Explore and compare woven and knit fabrics and trims according to hand, drape, texture, thickness, and stretch. (V)
9. Choose appropriate fabrics and trims for draping and sketch original designs for fabrics. (V)
10. Calculate fabric and trim yardages for selected original design. (V)
11. Drape, mark and true pattern for original design directly in fashion fabric. (VI)
12. Use hand-sewn thread markings for drape and transfer marking to make a paper pattern. (VI)
13. Construct and evaluate original design. (VI)
