Description: Advanced garment construction techniques, pattern alteration and fit and techniques used on specialty fabrics.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Select appropriate fabric, lining, interfacing, and patterns for garments constructed in class. (I)
2. Use sewing tools and pressing equipment appropriately during the construction process. (I)
3. Alter patterns to improve fit. (II-III)
4. Straighten grainline on fashion fabric and lining. (IV)
5. Layout, cut, and mark fashion fabric, lining, and interfacing. (IV)
6. Construct keyhole and bound buttonholes. (V)
7. Construct welt and lined patch pockets. (V)
8. Construct four-point collar on garment. (V)
9. Construct and attach shoulder pads/shapes. (V)
10. Set-in sleeves, construct and attach sleeve heads, and hem sleeves. (V)
11. Apply appropriate hemming technique to garment. (V)
12. Construct and attach lining to garment. (V)
13. Match balanced and unbalanced plaids and stripes. (VI)
14. Apply seam finishes and other construction techniques specific to specialty fabrics. (VII)
15. Evaluate the construction and fit of garments constructed in class. (VIII)
