Description: Theory and practice of Latin dance at the beginning level. Development of movement quality and performance skills.





MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Demonstrate correct placement and alignment for dance. (I, II)
2. Use basic locomotor and axial movements in the center and across the floor. (II, III)
3. Utilize components of dance techniques, theories and styles. (I-IV)
4. Utilize the theory of the body`s relationship to gravity and the center of gravity used in Latin dance. (I-IV).
5. Practice the basic elements of dance: space, time and energy. (I-IV)
6. Apply technical skills, theories and style in performance and improvisation. (IV)
7. Use basic rhythmic analysis to demonstrate the impact of polyrhythms and syncopation on Latin dance. (IV)
