Description: Introduction to woodworking fundamentals and applications. Familiarization with the basic woodworking tools emphasizing the safe and proper use of woodworking hand tools and stationary and portable power tools. Class projects develop a working project plan, identify material needs, cost analysis, basic construction of the project, and basic finishing techniques



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the safety precautions used in shop work. (I)
2. Demonstrate the safe and proper use of hand portable electric, and stationary power tools used in woodworking. (I, II, III)
3. Identify various types of woods and sheet goods and explain the particular features of each. (IV)
4. Prepare a design layout of a given project. (IV)
5. Calculate the cost of materials for a given project. (IV)
6. Describe and demonstrate knowledge of construction techniques, glues, fasteners and finishes. (V, VI)
