Description: Application of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on assessment, planning, and implementation. Introduction to evaluation of dental hygiene therapy



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Collect and interpret data from the medicodental history, extraoral and intraoral examination, radiographs, periodontal assessment and dental assessment for clinic patients. (I)
2. Develop and present dental hygiene treatment plans and appointment sequencing. (II)
3. Refer patients to appropriate health care providers based on interpretation of clinical data. (I, II)
4. Demonstrate clinic emergency protocol. (III)
5. Educate and enroll clients as co-therapists in oral disease prevention. (IV)
6. Identify instrument sharpness. (IV)
7. Detect and remove light to moderate deposits on patients with slight periodontitis. (IV)
8. Provide dental hygiene therapy for patients from diverse populations with experiences on pediatric patients.(IV)
9. Select and apply caries preventive agents. (IV)
10. Select and apply desensitizing agents. (IV)
11. Clean removable prosthetic appliances for clinic patients. (IV)
12. Integrate computer technology in patient care. (V)
13. Describe the outcome following implementation of dental hygiene care. (VI)
14. Demonstrate responsibility for professional judgment and ethical conduct in patient care. (VII)
