Description: Study of the dental hygiene process of care with emphasis on assessment, planning and implementation. Topics include instrumentation, adjunct dental hygiene services, instrument sharpening, computer technology, dental specialties and professional accountability

3. Describe the clinical and radiographic parameters of periodontal disease classification. (III)
4. Determine treatment planning and appointment sequencing for each of the periodontal disease classifications. (III)
5. Formulate individualized oral hygiene self care plans for clinic patients. (IV)
6. Explain the significance of root anatomy related to instrumentation techniques. (V)
7. Demonstrate proper patient selection for and operation of power scalers and air polishers. (V)
8. Explain the theory and rationale of dental hygiene treatment modalities. (V)
9. Describe and demonstrate hard and soft tissue desensitization. (VI)
10. Explain and demonstrate principles of instrument sharpening. (VII)
11. Describe pulp responsiveness testing. (VIII)
12. Describe and demonstrate the use of computer technology in dentistry. (IX)
13. Describe the recognized dental specialties and how each relates to dental hygiene. (X)
14. Describe professional accountability. (XI)
