Description: Production of cartoon drawing suitable for reproduction and submission to publishers. Introduction to greeting card design, editorial cartooning, comic strips and other uses of cartoons



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. List and define basic cartoon terminology and describe goal setting for cartooning. (I)
2. Identify basic cartoon drawing tools and describe the process of selection. (II)
3. Demonstrate proper use and care of materials and equipment. (II)
4. Employ cartoon techniques to design a series of cartoon characters. (II,III)
5. Identify stereotypes and body language associated with cartooning and describe the uses and the taboos related to each. (III)
6. Demonstrate understanding of layout and ability to use a defined space in an organized manner. (IV)
7. Produce an original cartoon series using materials and techniques appropriate for the design. (II-IV)
8. Employ animation techniques to move cartoon characters in limited sequence. (V)
9. Identify, describe, and evaluate current trends and opportunities in cartooning. (VI)
10. Develop a cartoon marketing plan based upon the cartoonist`s goals and market opportunities. (VII)
