Description: Primary emphasis on conceptual understanding of decimals and fractions, and decimal and fraction multiplication and division. Solving problems involving decimals, fractions, and percentages. Focus on additive and multiplicative reasoning including proportionality and similarity.

MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Distinguish appropriate uses of additive and multiplicative reasoning. (I, II, III)
2. Utilize and compare multiple solution strategies, including proportions, to solve a single problem. (I, II, III)
3. Determine whether a result is reasonable in the context of a problem. (I, II, III)
4. Model, solve, and interpret solutions to real world problems involving fractions and percentages. (I, II, III)
5. Perform the operations of multiplication and division on fractions and decimals. (II)
6. Use multiple frameworks to describe the meaning of a fraction, including percentages. (II, III)
7. Convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages. (II, III)
8. Identify the unit quantified by each fraction/ratio/percent in context when problem solving. (II, III)
9. Use scale factors and the scaling approach to proportionality to solve application problems in the context of percentages, similar figures, and equivalent ratios. (II, III, V)
10. Use unit conversions in applications of one, two, and three dimensional objects. (IV)
