Description: Prepares the advanced placement nursing assistant student for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) examination. The student will care for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the scope of practice of the CNA/LNA. Demonstration of problem solving, professional behavior, therapeutic communication skills, and maintenance of a safe environment. Demonstration of caring behaviors and ensuring environmental safety for the client. Provides opportunity for the advanced placement student to show proficiency in the performance of basic nursing assistant skills and procedures through laboratory activities and participation in the care of clients. Licensing is the exclusive responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Perform basic therapeutic, maintenance, and preventative interventions identified in the client`s plan of care appropriate to the nurse assistant role. (I)
2. Demonstrate behaviors that are in accord with accepted standards of practice and ethical guidelines within the role of the nurse assistant. (II)
3. Demonstrate simple problem solving to provide care to clients with alterations in health under the direction of the nursing staff. (III)
4. Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with clients with alterations in health. (III)
5. Demonstrate caring behaviors when interacting with clients in long-term agencies. (IV)
6. Demonstrate skills necessary to ensure a safe environment, protection of the client, and personal safety. (V, VI, VII)
7. Implement nursing assistant skills that relate to basic and holistic client needs. (VI)
