Description: Evaluate and demonstrate the methods and techniques for influencing change in group settings.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Compare and contrast common theoretical approaches to therapeutic group work. (I)
2. Describe how common theoretical approaches are applied to selected specialty groups. (II)
3. Describe ethical and professional issues related to therapeutic group work. (III)
4. List the stages of group development and describe the characteristics of each stage. (IV)
5. Demonstrate skills for dealing with challenging behavior in a group setting. (V)
6. Distinguish between verbal and nonverbal communication and demonstrate the ability to recognize and interpret each in group situations. (VI)
7. Identify the skills, style and responsibilities of a group leader. (VII)
8. Identify factors relevant to creating a cohesive group. (V, VIII)
