Description: Overview of the role of the practical nurse in care of clients. Includes nursing standards and scope of practice of the practical nurse. Emphasis on nursing care related to pediatric and care of the well childbearing client and childbearing family. Focus on the role of practical nurse in providing care through interventions consistent with established nursing care plans

1. Identify nursing interventions that are relevant for the safe nursing care of pediatric, childbearing clients, and their families. (I)
2. Describe developmental and learning needs of pediatric, childbearing clients, and their families. (I)
3. Describe nursing standards that safeguard the client`s health and well-being within the practical nurse`s scope of practice. (II)
4. Describe the role of the practical nurse in the management of a group of clients under the guidance of the registered nurse. (II)
5. Perform specific nursing interventions for pediatric, childbearing clients, and their families with selected alterations in health. (III)
6. Demonstrate safe performance of selected clinical skills/procedures. (IV)
7. Practice within the regulatory, legal, and ethical frameworks of practical nursing. (II, III, IV)
