Introductions 2. Minutes from October 5, 2006 were approved 3. A copy of the directory was passed around for review. If additions or corrections need to be made, contact your institution?s ATAC representative. 4. Using technology to facilitate communication and document management ? Rebecca showed some of the technology available that are being used in the statewide system currently and might be of interest to advisors. A small subcommittee was formed (Art Matthews, Boots Hunt, Diana Muniz) to discuss how the AAAATF might want to utilize ? Meeting calendar ? Meeting reports ? Chat lines ? Blogs ? could be used to house documents for the meetings ? Wikis ? a web page that can be altered any time ?on the fly? ? great for sharing ideas ? Google documents ? allows for storing and working on a document collaboratively ? it keeps track of all revisions made by the different users 5. ATASS Update ? Articulation Facilitator report (see handout from meeting) ? Business Analyst report (see handout from meeting) ? the AGEC database will no longer be DARS based; the CAS team is developing a Web application to take the place of DARS ? majors without common courses ? suggested that even those majors that are only at one university, should have a major guide listing the most appropriate courses cc students should take, not just a link to the transfer guide ? http://www4.nau.edu/aio/Articulation/Index.htm for the link to Diversity courses offered at the community colleges 6. Advising Issues and Policy Updates ? Common Course matrices ? common course matrix changes (see handout Laura provided) ? AP Physics and CLEP updates ? especially differences in languages (see handout) ? Business Math requirement ? Business has a major change in the CCM (see handout) ? Prop 300: Implementation practices ? Wendy Kilgore from Pima is pulling together a report of what all the state institutions are doing ? Student Rights and Responsibilities ? Rose Rojas was not able to attend the meeting, so this was tabled to Fall meeting. ? Transfer Back Policy ? it?s a practice rather than a policy ? students can transfer from a cc to a university before completing an AGEC, and transfer back courses to the cc for completion of the AGEC and/or associate?s degree ? a question was raised about how many in residence credits are required by different institutions ? it ranged from 6-18 ? another question was raised about courses which are transferred in from an out-of-state college and used for an AGEC at a cc- do the universities accept the AGEC? Yes they do, but if there is a course that does not transfer to the university, the AGEC transfers, gen ed is complete, but perhaps not all credits count toward the 120 needed to graduate 7. Hezel and Associates Survey Results ? surveyed advisors, A&R staff, discipline specific ATFs, and students on the statewide transfer system; there is a draft report and final draft is due in June; purpose was to assess effectiveness of the AZ Transfer Model. (see executive summary & survey results Laura sent on Listserv); when final report is done it will be made public, probably in CAS ? AGEC ? generally positive; some differences between cc and universities: 91% of cc Advisors compared to 51% of university advisors reported being very familiar with the AGEC. Students are less aware: 48% of university and 45% of cc students were either not familiar or confused about AGEC requirements. ? Transfer pathways and CCM ? universities not as familiar with these as the cc; only 37% of university advisors agreed that students who complete TP were more successful, but another 37% were unsure ? Consistency and communication were common weaknesses cited ? Overall for CAS ? high for quality of information, lower for aesthetic, ease of navigation, intuitiveness, etc. ? Advisor recommendations ? top 3 are advisor training; more consistency and communication about AGEC and transfer pathways, etc requirements and changes; and make CAS more user and student friendly. ? Hezel recommendations ? included advisor recommendations. Among additional recommendations (see survey results) is a recommendation that ABOR and CCs sponsor a campaign to increase student awareness of the components of the Arizona transfer system. ? Laura asked for volunteers for a subcommittee to identify content to put on a front-line advisors? page in CAS and to work on putting together advisor CAS/transfer training info (Dick Spining, Art Matthews, Tom Avants) 8. TSO Reports/Issues ? should there be a subcommittee responsible for overseeing TSO issues/reports or should we go back to having separate TSO meetings prior to the AAAATF meeting? It was decided to go have the TSOs meet prior to the AAAATF meeting but not to have any of the same agenda items on the two meetings. ? ASU had a 3 TSO issues in (TSO Chatlines) that have been resolved: 1. Transfer Associate?s degree Issue: SCC seeking confirmation from ASU that a specific out-of-state course they were using in Associate?s would be transferable to ASU. 2. AGEC application to university requirements: CC student told by university advisor to take course to fulfill a requirement that was already fulfilled by AGEC-S 3. Admission to University: AGEC in progress noted on CC transcript not recognized by university admissions. CIPS code correct on MCCCD transcript, but not picked up correctly at ASU. Linda Scott noted that this is a recurring problem. ? NAU and UA did not have any TSO issues reported. Not everyone has access to the chat lines, so at least one of the issues was not reported on the chat line. For access, contact Mike Hensley. ? There is a challenge to get students and other advisors to be aware that TSOs exist and how they can help. This should be addressed in the marketing campaign Hezel & Associates recommended. ? A subcommittee was formed to update the online AAATF Handbook and create orientation materials for new AAATF representatives and TSOs ((Kate Harrison and Lori Brown) 9. ATF Reports: Reports and discussion ? Ann provided a summary (see handout) ? Dick talked about the GEATF. The AGEC-A, B and S now have been somewhat restructured ? do we need to address these at the next meeting? 10. ASU Critical Tracking, Major Maps, eAdvisor ? (see handout on eAdvisor) Major maps are available online for all their majors http://www.asu.edu/programs/majormaps/; an ASU rep can come talk to a community college about how this works and how it affects cc students. Contact: Tom Avants: (480) 965-0146 tavants@asu.edu 11. NACADA ? should Arizona have an allied membership with NACADA? Celeste Pardee raised this question. http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Membership/allied.htm. Due to lack of time discussion was tabled to Fall meeting. 12. Elections ? Kathy Klein from UA was elected as the university co-chair ? Niki Herd was elected as the cc co-chair to finish up the final year of Coleen Stitt?s term 13. Schedule 07-08 Meetings ? CAC will host for the September meeting ? 9/27 ? The Spring meeting and AZ Academic Advising Conference will be held in mid-Feb. Christa Theilen from NAU and some one in Phoenix area said they would check at their institutions about hosting the meeting and Conference. Christa reported back that NAU cannot host. My apologies to the other person. Who are you, please? We still need a host. I ask you all to consider this and if you can host the meeting and conference in Spring, please let me, Kathy Klein and Niki Herd know. If you would like information about what is involved in hosting the conference, I am taking the liberty of suggesting you contact Roxie Catts (UA) who has become an expert on planning and hosting conferences. 14. School reports: written reports were distributed. Due to lack of time, verbal reports were not given. |
