1. Introductions

2. Minutes of the May 15, 2006 meeting were approved unanimously.

3. A copy of the AAATF Directory was circulated for attendance. Those who were not on the list were instructed to contact their campus ATAC representative to ask to be added to the directory. ATAC reps can be found by searching on Arizona Transfer Articulation Committee in the CAS ATF query.

4. Report from Mike Hensley:
a. A team from Arizona went to Washington DC to discuss AZ?s general education transfer system which is a model for the country.
b. NCA is discussing statewide outcomes
c. DARS means a new CAS look in the fall. There will be advisor training.
d. He is attending APASC.
e. Major Guides are now only available for programs that have courses in a Common Course Matrix. The plan is to get all degrees incorporated. He announced that UA was close to having new transfer guides on CAS. Mike said they would review incorporating special admission requirements. Mike also said the common course matrices are all up to date, and they are looking at the possibility of adding recommendations for AGECs to TG-XRs.

5. Report from Ann Huber: Talked about her role as supporting APASC, supporting the ATFs, and leading the Quality Team for technology and staff.
There is a new ATF for Women?s Studies and Parks & Recreation/Tourism/Nonprofit. They are working on integrating the new Tohono O?ohdam CC into CAS.
Her goal is to ensure that everyone is aware of CAS and the ATFs and the wonderful work they are doing.

6. Mike said to let him know if there are problems with receiving info from the listserv. They are having some problems with aliases.

7. Discussed issues regarding the use of the TSO Chat line. Laura said it had only been used three times in the past year. There was discussion regarding when to use it. The consensus was that it was important to document issues, including resolution, so that trends or recurring problems could be addressed by APASC or Advising ATF. Issues that limit TSO?s ability to report all problems:
a. Students do not know TSOs exist, so do not request help.
b. Frequently issues resolved department-to-department
c. Students do not mention problems until after transfer.
Regarding more general issues of transfer, Laura reminded advisors that the Common Course Matrix plus AGEC is for the undecided student. Transfer guides are designed for students who know their major and University. Students can make wiser choices when they know exactly where they are headed.
Dick Spinning reminded everyone that the AGEC is also there to protect students from small community colleges that cannot offer a wide range of options.

8. Laura brought up the issue of problems with getting AGECs and degrees posted. Kathy Klein mentioned that the Admissions/Registration ATF had discussed it and encouraged institutions to have an option on their request for transcripts that said hold for AGEC or degree. Ann mentioned it is important for advisors to remind students that AGECs need to be posted on their transcripts. Mike said Pima sends a postcard reminding students to send transcripts after their final semester.
Laura asked about AGEC-in-progress notations. The discussion affirmed it was important for advisors to work with students to be sure they understood the importance of finishing AGEC and getting it posted. She asked that we go back to our institutions and discuss better ways of communicating to students regarding the need to send final transcripts and getting AGEC and degrees posted.

9. Placement of the Transfer Tips and Check sheet was discussed. Decided they will go on both the Advisor and Student pages with a link from ?First Step.? Mike will send a notice when it is in draft form.
There were questions regarding including degrees that do not have Common Courses. Mike said ATAC is working on this. He also mentioned Rebecca is working on the major guides and rethinking some of the details to include.

10. Mike reviewed the calendar for the discipline-specific ATFs so we could find their meeting notes. There was a general discussion regarding how important it is for advisors to be aware of the decisions from the discipline-specific ATFs. It was decided that Laura would assign an ATF to each member of the AAATF. Members would go if possible, check with their institutional representative, and check the ATF reports. Anything that might affect advising should be reported back to the AAATF listserv. Dani cautioned against assuming that everything discussed at an ATF would be implemented.

11. School Roundtable:
a. Kathy Klein from UA South - Announced that UA would be hosting the NACADA Region X Conference, May 14-16. If anyone would like to see a session on a particular topic, or is interested in presenting, please get in touch with Roxie Catts at the UA. 520-626-8667 or email catts@email.arizona.edu.
b. Mike from AWC ? They are developing a way for students who do not come in for advising to ?do-it-yourself.? There are new resources for students planning to transfer: http://www.azwestern.edu/learning_services/Curriculum_and_Articulation/tutorial/TutorialIndex.htm
c. Tom from ASU ? Announced new schools and directed advisors to handouts.
d. Jennie from Pima ? AWC and now MCCCD working on a video about the transfer process for high school counselors and high school students. They are looking for real students to give testimonials on the video.
