Description: The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Health Unit Coordinating/Patient Care Associate program focuses on the work involved in the nursing unit in health care facilities. The Health Unit Coordinating focuses on the coordination of non-clinical activities related to patient care. Professional duties include processing doctors` orders, scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments for patients, managing the patients` paper and electronic charts, managing unit supplies and equipment, and facilitation and management of workflow in the health care setting. Communication duties include managing telephone and patient intercom calls. The Patient Care Associate Option II adds the role of the nursing assistant for clients across the wellness/illness continuum within the nurse assisting scope of practice to the Health Unit Coordinator role.



Required Courses
Two specializations are available for student enrollment:
Specialization I - Health Unit Coordinating (HUC) is for entry level students with no prior healthcare experience.
Specialization II - Patient Care Associate (PCA) is for students who take all the HUC courses with the addition of NUR158 or transfer 4.5 credits in Nursing Assisting from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
