Description: Introduction and overview of healthcare compliance; evolution of the field as a profession. Exploration of federally legislated mandates for a Compliance Program. Program elements. Organizational steps for implementation in specific settings.

1. Summarize and compare compliance programs and ethics/integrity programs. (I)
2. Specify who needs a compliance program and the ethical and legal reasons for implementation. (I)
3. Describe the roles of the Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Office of Inspector General, and the Office for Civil Rights in regulating health care. (I)
4. Discuss the Seven Essential Elements of an effective compliance program. (II)
5. Construct the organizational steps for compliance program implementation. (III)
6. Contrast and discuss methods of tailoring your compliance program. (IV)
