Description: Introduction to landscape design with an emphasis on residential and small scale projects. Application of design processes from inventory and analysis through design and development including program, measured base, study diagrams, rendered and colored plans, and sectional elevations. Architectural communication developed through hand sketch and hand drafting techniques with practice in client interview and design presentation.

2. Prepare landscape freehand sketches and drawing techniques. (I)
3. Execute professional lettering style. (I)
4. Design a landscape plan to scale using appropriate architectural communication techniques. (II)
5. Develop rendering techniques for diagrammatic and preliminary design plans and sectional elevations. (I)
6. Formulate techniques for client interviews to generate a program. (II)
7. Prepare a base map using site measurements and estimates. (I, II)
8. Prepare site inventory and analysis. (II)
9. Assess space and spatial definers. (II)
10. Create functional diagrams, aesthetic principles, and form and spatial compositions. (II)
11. Compare and contrast softscape and hardscape materials and their uses. (II)
12. Construct visual memory repository of landscape character and themes. (II)
13. Develop presentation and critiquing techniques. (III)
