Description: Operation of a home serger. Use in constructing, finishing, and decorating garments and home decorations. Home serger required.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain a home serger. (I)
2. Identify and correct balanced and unbalanced tension. (II)
3. Change stitch width and length on a home serger. (II)
4. Set up a home serger for flatlocking. (II)
5. Flatlock two fabrics together. (II)
6. Use flatlocking for embellishing a fabric. (II)
7. Make a plain serged straight seam, a reinforced seam, a curved seam, and a seam with corners. (II)
8. Apply seam finish to straight edges, curved edges, and corners. (II)
9. Gather on a home serger, with and without differential feed. (II)
10. Apply a blind serger hem to a knot and to a woven fabric. (II)
11. Set up a home serger for a rolled hem. (II)
12. Apply a rolled serger hem to a knit and to a woven fabric, using either woolly nylon or two-ply serger thread. (II)
13. Apply lace insertion, make pintucks, and make and apply ruffles. (II)
14. Construct a sweatshirt or T-shirt. (III)
15. Construct a piece of lingerie or sleepwear. (III)
