Description: Study of creative, critical, analytical and strategic thinking as it relates to human behavior and the built environment. Emphasis on design theory, process, and application. Stresses creative expression through the utilization of design elements and principles.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Use problem identification and interviewing skills to create a concept statement. (I)
2. Create a schematic design using bubble diagrams and adjacency matrix. (II)
3. Design an interior space applying the design development process from concept to presentation. (III)
4. Identify and use various light sources and luminaries in residential applications. (III)
5. Develop accessorization techniques. (III)
6. Describe the effect of light quantity and quality in residences. (IV)
7. Develop construction documents including specifications and schedules that support a design project. (IV)
8. Explain the use of punch lists and diagnostic evaluations at project completion. (V)
