Description: Provides students with hands-on experience in the role of the patient navigator professional in the public health field, including guiding patients through various types of health care situations.




MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the role and need of the patient navigator. (I)
2. Apply knowledge of determinants of health, health status indicators, and health disparities to patient situations. (II)
3. Apply knowledge of lifespan wellness in diverse patient and age populations to patient situations. (III)
4. Communicate health concepts and health information using a variety of methods to co-workers, patients, individuals, families, and groups from diverse backgrounds and in various settings. (IV)
5. Conduct oneself safely, ethically, and legally at all times. (V)
6. Demonstrate professionalism and leadership. (VI)
7. Create/select appropriate patient resources for individuals of all health literacy levels. (VII)
8. Guide patients through the appropriate types of healthcare system payment/economic models and contractual relationships. (VIII)
