Description: Introduction to evidence-based research of trends and developments in health throughout the lifespan, dealing with the prenatal period through advanced age. Training in the individual, social, and environmental factors to determine and address health status and health inequities across the lifespan and in public health interventions such as education, policy, and environmental changes.



MCCCD Official Course Competencies
1. Describe the major social, cultural, biological, and environmental factors that influence health status and contribute to observed health disparities across the lifespan. (I)
2. Identify how current practices of environmental design affect human health throughout the lifespan. (I)
3. Describe the uses of public health surveillance. (II)
4. Discuss the impact of multiple determinants of health across the lifespan from prenatal through advanced age. (III, IV)
5. Identify leading morbidities and causes of mortality for specific age and population groups. (III, IV)
6. Identify the common models of behavior change used in public health at both the individual and the population levels. (V)
7. Develop strategies for improving health at the personal and population levels through health promotion and prevention across the lifespan. (V)
8. Identify and evaluate resources contributing to the promotion of health issues throughout all life stages. (V)
