Description: The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Surgical Technology is designed for students with an interest in working in the surgical setting and caring for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. Students will apply manual dexterity and knowledge of surgical technology under the direction of a surgeon and in conjunction with the surgical team. At the completion of the program, graduates may seek employment in a hospital, surgical center, other outpatient settings, or surgical equipment industry and veterinary services. In addition, the AAS degree includes common core classes with the Hospital Central Services certificate program. Upon completion of the Surgical Technology program, students take the national Certified Surgical Technologist exam (CST). Students also have the option within the program to complete the 480-hour Hospital Central Service Technology practicum to be eligible to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification examination from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM).

Students interested in transferring to the Northern Arizona University Bachelor of Science in Surgical Technology program or another Arizona state public university can satisfy the relevant Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) and transfer requirements by completing the following courses while waiting in the program queue:

1. An additional course with the Humanities, Arts and Design [HU] general studies designation meeting the Cultural [C] and Global [G] or Historical [H] Awareness Areas and Literacy (if exempt from CRE101) with choice as needed. 3
2. An additional course with the Computer/Statistics/Quantitative Applications general studies designation. 3

Option I is for students who do NOT have a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). Option II is for students who have a CRCST certification through IAHCSMM.
