Note
Changes to Majors on Common Course Matrix : Sarah Williams (UA) requested a distinction of "(General)" be added to UA's BA in Philosophy, and that the BA in Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Law (PPEL) be added.
Changes to Common Course Matrices : (Correction to last year's minutes)The 2016 meeting minutes indicated MCCCD's PHI102 might stop being offered and thus would need to be deleted from the Common Courses. Debra Campbell (MCC) noted the course is NOT being removed from the MCCCD catalog (therefore, no common course change is needed).
Changes to Exam Equivalency Matrices : Debra Campbell requested MCCCD's status be changed to NT for the DSST Exam Equivalency (Ethics in America). All attending (ASU, AWC, Cochise, Coconino, Dine', MCCCD, Mohave, NAU, NPC, Pima, UA) agreed to change their institutions' status to NT for the IB exam equivalency-Philosophy SL. (No changes on IB-Philosophy HL). All institutions not present (CAC, EAC, TOCC, Yavapai) are asked to review IB Philosophy SL exam and report decision (NT or equivalencies) to their institutional facilitators.
Record of Voting :
AGEC Information :
Additional Comment/ Discussion Items :
Issues Raised : Concerns expressed about IB Exam online syllabus (does not provide enough information) and credentials of those who grade the exams (also want data on how it is graded).
Curriculum Planning : NAU moving toward "multi-semester" enrollment, ASU recently approved a Philosophy of Sex and Love course; Debra Campbell asked about the possibility of establishing equivalency between the new ASU course and MCCCD's Philosophy of Sexuality course (PHI218). UA's BA in Philosophy (Ethics track) will become a separate degree in 2018, but the curriculum will not change. AWC's PHI207-Social and Political Philosophy was approved for Writing Intensive credit. CCC proposed adding a course in Philosophy of Religion to the catalog.
