Issues Raised : They would like for the HA 101 to be considered a general education course. But, since U of A does not have a hospitality or culinary program, then this course does not transfer. They would like to know how U of A can rule on a possible general education when the university does not offer these programs.
Curriculum Planning : Developmental Education was addressed in relation to how it postpones hospitality students from starting their programs. Discussed the financial aid, self-esteem, and skill set associated with students that need developmental classes. They discussed the development of certificates, particularly in event planning (wedding, spa). Some institutions noted low student enrollment and thus curriculum planning has stalled; discussed the benefits for some students in the valley area since they have opportunities for experience. Members expressed concerns with the AAS to BAS pathway since some of their students have to repeat courses that have already been taken to fulfill their lower-level requirements. They discussed about establishing specific tracks to prevent this duplication.
Changes to Pathways : TG-XR
CEG changes : None noted.
Which Matrix for Pathway Changes : Non Applicable
Effective Date For Pathway Change : Fall 2013
ASSIST Report Comments : They would like to have a GPA noted in order to determine the quality within the programs and how they exist. A staff member noted that the TAG agreements were too confusing for the students and she thought that AZTransfer was created in order to streamline the transferability (discussed the TAG agreements). It was noted that a credit breakdown in the report would be beneficial (such as the report provided by ASU) where it provides how successful students have been considering how many credits completed at the community college (when they are established students at the university).
Other Comments : They would like to have development education addressed at the AZTransfer Summit.

Please Note: Phoenix College participated in the Hospitality ATF. In addition Janelle Hoffman participated later in the meeting due to her class schedule.
