Changes to Exam Equivalency Matrices : AP Exam Page
Dine College - should have same BIO 100 and Bio 181 & 182.
Cochise-Change to Bio 100.

CLEP Exam Page
Dine College - will check old notes, but there should be some transfer there rather than NA.
Whole CLEP exam equivalency is wrong; should only equate to 3 lecture credits but no lab credits; check old notes, as this needs to be updated.
Cochise: prefix should be BIO instead of BIE; should only be 3 credits of lecture only.

IB Exam Equivalency Page
Central Arizona College-Score of 4 or 5 = BIO 100 (4) and Score of 6 or 7 = Bio 181 (4) and BIO 182 (4)
Dine College-should be BIO 100 (4).
Scores should say Exam 4 or 5 in first column and equates to Bio 100 (4 credits).
Second column remains 6 or higher equivalent to BIO 181 and 182.
ASU change from Bio 187 to Bio 100.
Cochise College should be the same as Coconino Community College.
Pima Community College-column 1 should be Bio 100 instead of Bio 181.

For all colleges except U of A a score of 4 or 5 will equate to a non-majors 4 credit Bio.
For U of A it will be ECOL Department 4 credits (lower division elective credit).

DSST Environmental and Humanity
Cochise should be NA as they do not have a science elective.
ASU and UofA elective crefit, but NAU should be NA.
All community colleges except AWC are NA.
BIO ATF recommends to GEOLOGY ATF that Dantes (DSST) Environmental Humanity transfers as 3 credits of general elective.

Environmental Science AP exam equivalency

**in all exam tables were NA is present or recommended, please convert to NT (which means non-transferable)

CLEP Natural Sciences

ASU and Maricopa down to 3 credits.
Chochise-NT across the board.
Exam score of 50 and 53 should be blended into one column stating 50 or higher.
50 or higher would then equate to 3 general elective credits.

AP Environmental Science-BIO ATF recommends to GEOLOGY ATF that a score of 4 or 5 or the AP exam for Envrionmental science transfers as 4 credits of general elective.

TABLE the IB Environmental Systems (and societies) exam until we have further information.

Additional Comment/ Discussion Items :
Changes to Pathways :
Issues Raised : Almost all tables are incorrect on the Bio Portal pages. They are outdated and were not updated in the past 2 years. This should be a high priority fix.
Which Matrix for Pathway Changes :
Curriculum Planning : See above recommendations for Geology ATF.

ASU is starting a new sequence for bio majors. It's a more conceptual approach for bio majors and the courses are Bio 281 and 282; it will have partial lecture and partial hands-on learning and labs. ASU will continue to teach and accept credits for Bio 181 and 182, but new majors will be enrolled in Bio 281/282. Bio 281/282 will have higher pre-requisites, including college algebra. Shouldn't influence transfers at least not INTO ASU. It is unsure what would happen to students who transfer OUT of ASU. Bio 281/282 will have the same information/cover the same learning objectives as 181 and 182 if the students complete the whole year (281/282); the 281/282 is just taught in a different format. However, if students only take 1 of the courses they will be missing content/information for the 181/182 sequence. This change at ASU was inspired by Vision and Change (document from the AAAS; available at http://visionandchange.org/), which encourages less memorizing, more critical thinking, and a more learner-centered approach. New idea to discuss making the pair of courses (281/282) transferable but not the individual classes because is not distributed in the same manner as 181 and 182. Feedback is sought on this for the potential spring meeting a year and a half from now.

The course number of BIO 340 (Genetics) at NAU has changed to BI0 240, which transfers better.

Dine College is developing a capstone project/course for their Associates Program. Do any other programs have anything like this?

ASU request to remove ASU Tempe Conservation Biology and Ecological Sustainability (BS)
