Changes to Majors on Common Course Matrix :
Changes to AGEC :
Changes to Common Course Matrices : Matrix text should specify that Business Electives must be "E or better" to all three universities as was the original intent of "business electives." The specific course are determined by the community college. This will also help avoid confusion with general electives which are no longer required to be E or better at all universities under new policy.

Additional Comment/ Discussion Items : The ATFs were asked to review common cut scores for AP, CLEP and IB credit. ASU, UA and NAU will discuss this and provide the information to all.

The ATFs were asked to address two additional questions: subcommittee effectiveness and environmental/sustainability. ATF members will be asked to respond via on-line survey.

It was requested that ASU provide an update on CIS 105 at the next meeting.
Issues Raised :
Changes to Pathways :
Curriculum Planning : University of Arizona, Anne Pagel
The Public Administration Program has moved from Eller College to the School of Public Policy in the College of Social and Behavioral Science. There are also changes that have been made to the Public Administration curriculum, including changes to the math curriculum, that would eliminate the three Public Administration majors from the Common Pathways for the ABUS.

The Eller College is developing a new strategic plan and this includes a re-evaluation of the undergraduate program that will be conducted over the next year.

Northern Arizona University (Dean Pielstick, Eric Yordy)
NAU BBA Yuma created two leveling courses as substitute prerequisites for non-busines majors who need BBA 300 Principles of Management in a Global Economy as part of their degree program: BBA 290 Managerial Accounting and Financial Analysis and BBA 291 Economic Analysis and Business Law. NAU-Yuma will make these courses available on the Internet. Community Colleges are invited to offer the courses. Previously, these students needed to have completed all of the English, math, and business courses that are required in the ABUS. This could be a significant number of additional classes and discourage students from pursuing these degrees. Students must take these to get into upper division courses in the BBA degree.

NAU Flagstaff, the Management program has submitted a curriculum redesign which eliminates two courses and replaces them with two new, more focused classes. The CIS program has no changes but is considering certificate programs. Accounting is planning significant change. Students will need to pass a skills assessment as a prerequisite for some of the upper-division Accounting courses. Students have three attempts to pass the exam. Additionally, students must earn a C or better in ACC 300 and ACC 355 within three attempts including a grade of W. If they do not meet this requirement, they will not be allowed to proceed in accounting.

Arizona State University (Kay Faris)
The content of CIS 105 is changing. The draft syllabus is attached. The course includes one week of Word, seven weeks of Excel and seven weeks of Access. The final week is visual basic. UA and NAU are in agreement with this change. The CIS Articulation Task Force is aware of this change as well and ASU is willing to work with any Community College on these changes. Courses from the community colleges and universities will need to be resubmitted to evaluate equivalencies.

The School of Accountancy is proposing two new courses: Financial and Managerial Accounting for Accountancy majors. Students will take this in lieu of ACC 231 and 241. Transfer students will not be required to take these courses when they come to ASU. Draft syllabi are attached.

The ASU West Campus Business Program and the Polytechnic Campus Business Program are now part of the W. P. Carey School. We will offer a BS in Management and a BS in Accountancy at the West Campus.

Two new BA proposals are in process: A BA in Business with a concentration in Law and a BA in Business with a concentration in Global Politics. Additionally, W. P. Carey is beginning an on-line degree, BA in Business with a concentration in Communication.

ASU and Maricopa are beginning a new transfer pathway for students: MAPPS. MAPPS provide: Guaranteed tuition, Scholarships, Guaranteed admission to program if requirements are met.
