Record of Voting : A vote was taken to change the IB score of 4 to be granted for Bio 100 or Bio 101, but not Bio 181 or Bio 182.

A vote to table further changes to IB scores pending investigation of the exam and to request information from Physics and Chemistry ATFs. How does the ATF assure that students receiving credit by exam are lab competent? There should be checks performed for majors courses.

A vote was passed to have the next meeting at Glendale Community College due to its central location in the state.
Additional Comment/ Discussion Items :
Changes to Pathways :
Issues Raised : Would like to propose that BIO 100 or Bio 101 is granted for an IB score of 4, not BIO 181 or 182. Further research will be conducted before the ATF makes any further decisions regarding 181 and 182.
Curriculum Planning : Bio ATF felt that we should increase activity in interdisciplinary studies. Attendees felt that biology students need more quantitative courses, at least at the upper-division levels. Because of added requirements for many pathways, it was felt that many degrees are taking 5 years to complete. Field trips for many biology courses are being dropped due to budgetary constraints. Some biology courses are field courses.

The issue was raised about online microbiology courses. The concern is lab competencies. Course standards and outcomes should not be modified for online courses. Information should be gathered from The American Society of Microbiology (ASM). We should also determine whether this is an accreditation issue.

NAU has moved the Endocrine system from Bio 201 to Bio 202 to ensure these courses contain the same content statewide.
