Additional Comment/ Discussion Items : |
Factors which are impacting allied health education include a major movement toward the use of distance education technologies, the current shortage of clinical sites, and the increase in demands for more educated allied health professionals (i.e., with baccalaureate and even master's degrees).
It may be worthwhile for institutions to consider how to develop mobile allied health programs with laboratories that could be moved from one institution to another around the state in order to better meet the needs of rural areas for allied health professionals. |
Issues Raised : |
The members present at this meeting thought that the statewide transfer system should consider adding the capacity for ATFs to have individual interactive web sites (e.g., like SharePoint) in order to facilitate discussions between formal meetings. The group would like to find ways to increase collaboration among the various colleges and universities.
Concern was also expressed that for the past two years no representative from either ASU or U of A attended the Allied Health ATF meeting. |

Curriculum Planning : |
For 2010, it is anticipated that both NAU and U of A will include a Public Health major to the B.S. in Health Science degrees.
It is hoped that the Common Course Matrix for Allied Health can be expanded to include a Mathematics course and at least one additional Biology course (Anatomy & Physiology I and/or II or BIO 160 (Introduction to Human Anatomy & Physiology). Because of some differences among institutions, this will require discussion and possible curriculum changes during the coming year. This may also require working with the Biology ATF and the Mathematics ATF. |
