Changes to Common Course Matrices : |
Secondary Education Social Studies Teaching CCM:
Intro to Special Ed; Intro to Ed; US History I & II; Macro or Micro-economics; Am Government/Politics; Western Civ. I & II There were also discussions about the University of Arizona, and how it appears they no longer offer an equivalency to the "introduction to Education" course. The UofA also needed to update all Secondary Education matrices with SERP301B, instead of SERP301A. "A" is for elementary ed majors only. |

Record of Voting : |
Unanimous vote - that APASC or someone send a message to the community colleges that never attend our ATF, as well as the UofA, that they need to start attending these ATF meetings.
Unanimous vote - that post-bac courses taught at the community college not be sent through ACETS. EDU ATF would like to send a request/mandate to Political Science ATF about building a course at all of the three campuses that will satisfy the US and Arizona Constitution requirement for teachers. Unanimous vote - to have Marjorie Shiller start an email dialogue/approval of the AA degree in SED. |

Issues Raised : |
Attendance of some CCs and the major absence of UofA.
It appears that UofA might have made some changes to their degree programs where the AA degree in Elementary Ed is no longer supported, as well as crippling the common course matrices. |
Curriculum Planning : | AASE (Associate in Arts, Secondary Education): 6 credits Intro to Ed and either Intro to Special Ed or Multicultural Ed.; AGEC-A 35 credits; secondary content area: 23 credits: total: 64 |

Other Pathway Information : | The ATF presented a template for a new AA degree in Secondary Education. Pros/cons were discussed about launching this degree. There was a question about whether or not all three universities needed to accept (like an AGEC) the new AA degree, or if only 2 of the 3 campuses could accomodate, is this enough to build a new degree? |
